Parent lines and genetic origin

Patagonia Auto is the automatic version of Patagonia, an in-house selection by Trikoma Seeds. Its page declares a cross of OG Kush + Northern Lights × Ruderalis: the base is the same as that of the feminized one —two classic lines of the international catalogue, one associated with the Kush register and the other with the indica lineage of low bearing and dense flowering— and to that combination a third leg is added.

That third leg is Cannabis ruderalis, the short-cycle subspecies adapted to high latitudes, and it is what defines the behaviour of the strain. In a photoperiod plant flowering starts when the photoperiod changes; in Patagonia Auto the move from growth to flowering depends on the age of the plant and not on the photoperiod.

The Trikoma version comes from our own mother plants, selected and maintained at our bank in Barcelona. We work on our own parent lines and we do not distribute genetic material from third parties: what this page describes is our selection of Patagonia Auto.

What makes this strain recognisable

The profile the page declares is simply fruity: without an earthy background, without a lactic note and without the spicy edge of the Haze lines. It is a frontal, clean register, closer to fruit than to the sugary sweetness of other autoflowering strains in the range.

In structure it is an autoflowering of good size —not one of the compact ones in the catalogue— with tight, resinous buds. The density of the flower and the resin load are the two traits that best describe it, together with a bearing that gives it more volume than the autos of contained stature.

The page also highlights that it withstands sharp temperature changes between day and night well, a declared trait of this line. As in any seed population there is variation between phenotypes: these traits describe the average of the selection, not a particular specimen.

How it fits within the catalogue

• Patagonia feminized: the photoperiod version of the same selection. It shares the OG Kush + Northern Lights base, but it enters flowering when the photoperiod changes and not by age. It is the direct comparison between the two families.
• Northern Lights Auto: it shares the Northern Lights contribution, but with an earthy and pine profile, low bearing and 16–21% declared THC against the 14–19% of Patagonia Auto.
• Al Tiro Auto: it carries Patagonia within its own cross, alongside Wendy, and declares a sweet profile and a THC of 17–22%.

Patagonia exists in three versions: the photoperiod Patagonia feminized, this Patagonia Auto and Patagonia Fast. They share selection and differ in how they enter flowering.

About the large formats

In addition to the 6-seed pack, Patagonia Auto is offered in packs of 100 and 1,000 seeds. They are single-strain packs, with no mixes: all the seeds come from the same selection of mother plants as the small format, so what changes is the quantity and not the genetic material.

The difference is in the price per seed, which drops from €3.33 in the small format to €2.40 in the 100-seed pack and to €1.20 in the 1,000-seed one. The whole catalogue in these formats is in bulk seeds.

Frequently asked questions about Patagonia Auto

How does it differ from Patagonia feminized?

In what triggers flowering. The feminized one is photoperiod and changes phase when the photoperiod changes. Patagonia Auto carries ruderalis in its cross, so the change depends on the age of the plant. The OG Kush + Northern Lights base is common to both.

What does the ruderalis bring within the cross?

The autoflowering character. Cannabis ruderalis comes from high latitudes, where the season is short, and it transmits a development that is not governed by the photoperiod. Added to the Patagonia base, it gives a plant that keeps the profile of the selection and adds that character independent of the photoperiod.

What does the declared THC of 14–19% mean?

It is the range the bank declares for its parent lines, not a measurement of each seed. It serves to place the strain against others in the catalogue and compare them with each other.
