Northern Lights is one of the most influential indica genetics in the international seed catalogue. It is associated with an Afghan lineage selected in North America and later taken to the European banks, where it became a reference for low bearing and dense flowering. Precisely because of those characteristics it has been, for decades, one of the favourite bases for building automatic crosses.

The data for this version declares a cross of Northern Lights × Ruderalis. Cannabis ruderalis is the short-cycle subspecies adapted to high latitudes, and its contribution is what changes how the plant works: in a photoperiod strain flowering starts when the photoperiod changes, whereas here the move from growth to flowering depends on the age of the plant.

The Trikoma version comes from our own mother plants, selected and maintained at our bank in Barcelona. We work on our own parent lines and we do not distribute genetic material from third parties: what this page describes is our selection of Northern Lights Auto, not that of any other bank. It is, moreover, the only Northern Lights line in the catalogue, and we keep it in an autoflowering version only.

What makes this strain recognisable

The aroma the page records is earthy and of pine, with fruity touches: a resinous, forest register, very far from the sweet profiles and the Haze lines of the catalogue. The fruit appears only as a nuance, behind the earth and the conifer resin.

On the palate, the declared notes change register: lemon, earth and spices. That jump between the aroma on the plant and the flavour —from pine resin to the citrus and spicy edge— is one of the traits that best identify the strain.

In structure it is a plant of low stature, dense and compact, very discreet during its development. It does not expand or branch out excessively: it concentrates the volume in little space. As in any seed population there is variation between phenotypes: these traits describe the average of the selection, not a particular specimen.

About the large formats

In addition to the 6-seed pack, Northern Lights Auto is offered in packs of 100 and 1,000 seeds. They are single-strain packs, with no mixes: all the seeds come from the same selection of mother plants as the small format, so what changes is the quantity and not the genetic material.
