“Bulk” is one of the most frequent searches in the world of cannabis seeds, but it is not always clear what it involves. In this article we explain what large formats are, how much the price per unit changes and in which cases they are worth it.
What bulk seeds means
A bulk pack is a large format of a single variety, usually 100 or 1,000 units, as opposed to the small pack of 3, 5 or 10 seeds sold to the general public. It is not a different product or an inferior selection: they are the same seeds, without the individual collector’s packaging.
It is worth distinguishing it from two similar things:
- Mix packs: several different varieties in the same pack. In our case, the 12-seed Mix Packs with four genetics.
- Cheap loose seeds: batches with no traceability, sometimes without stating which seed bank they come from. There, a low price usually ends up costing you dearly.
How much the price per seed drops
The jump is considerable. These are our formats:
| Format | Price | Per seed |
|---|---|---|
| 6 seeds | €20 | €3.33 |
| 100 seeds | €240 | €2.40 |
| 1,000 seeds | €1,200 | €1.20 |
From the small format to the 1,000-unit one, the price per seed drops by just over 60%.
Who it makes sense for
- Collectors of a specific genetic line. Those who want to preserve a variety in quantity, not just a sample.
- Industry professionals. Shops and distributors that need volume of the same reference.
- Genetic conservation projects. Maintaining a stable line over time requires reserves.
If what you are looking for is to try several genetics, a large pack is not the option: the logical choice is a small format or a mix pack.
Breeder or reseller: the difference that matters
Most websites selling bulk seeds are grow shops reselling third-party batches. A seed bank that breeds its own genetics works differently:
- The seeds come from mother plants selected by the seed bank itself, so the selection is the same across the whole batch.
- The exact origin of the cross can be explained, not just the commercial name.
- There is continuity: the same variety will still be available next year.
Trikoma Seeds has been selecting its own genetics in Barcelona since 2009. You can read more in About Trikoma Seeds.
Which collections are available in large formats
All of them: feminized, autoflowering, fast versions, USA Strains and CBD. The full list with prices is on the bulk seeds page.
How to store them
A large batch should be kept in a cool, dry, dark place, in an airtight container and at a stable temperature. Sudden temperature changes and humidity are the two factors that most deteriorate a seed collection.
Legal notice
